Dr. Temple Grandin

Dr. Temple Grandin demos a Pumper Car® ride-on vehicle!

At a recent USAA event in Portland, Oregon, we were thrilled to meet Dr. Temple Grandin when she visited our booth. Her abundant knowledge and prodigious presence was a joy to experience.

After taking the car for a spin, Temple told us, “The Pumper Car [vehicle] is a fun way to get a burst of hard exercise. I know from trying it!” Check out the video of her test drive below.

Dr. Grandin isn’t alone in saying that the Pumper Car device is a great way to get exercise. A new study has found that “short bursts of intensive exercise boosts children’s brain power and has benefits for children with learning difficulties or conditions such as autism.”

Not only does the Pumper Car provide those essential “short bursts of intensive exercise,” it’s also inclusive—children of all abilities can ride it.

Exercise is important for all children, especially for those with autism. Here are a few facts Dr. Grandin asked us to share:

  • One in 68 children in the United States has been identified with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
  • ASD is 4.5 times more common in boys (one in 42) than in girls (one in 189).
  • From 2006 to 2008, about one in six children in the United States had a developmental disability.
